October was a landmark month for DAIS athletics, with our Sea Dragons making waves both at home and away. From hosting the first-ever DISA U15 Badminton tournament on our Dalian campus to competing in high-level events in Shenzhen and Xiamen, our student-athletes showed grit, growth, and great sportsmanship. Whether lifting trophies or learning through tough matches, the Sea Dragon spirit was on full display.
Our athletics season kicked off on October 18 and 19 as DAIS hosted the first ever DISA U15 Badminton tournament right here on our Dalian campus. The format was a team competition and along with 2 teams from DAIS there were also teams from our friends from CAIS Tigers, QSI Lions and OCIS. After 2 days of excellent competition, we are delighted to say that our DAIS Sea Dragons became the first ever DISA U15 Badminton champions, edging out OCIS in the final. Our 2nd team lost out in a play-off with QSI to finish in 4th position. Thanks to Dr. Libingi, Mr. Sanchez and Ms. Donahue for their continued support of our U15 badminton players.

On the same weekend that we hosted DISA, our U19 Badminton team traveled to Shenzhen for the NESSIC U19 Badminton team competition hosted by SCIE. This was a high standard competition, and we saw improvement and growth in our players throughout the competition. Our Sea Dragons were narrowly defeated in the Plate semi-final after some very close rubbers that on another day could have fallen in our favor. What was more impressive about the Sea Dragons performance was as this tournament was out of season, they had little preparation beforehand. We are certainly excited about this team's growth later in the year as they prepare for April’s ACAMIS tournament. Thanks to Ms. Ang for her support of the badminton players in Shenzhen.

October 23 – 25 saw the Sea Dragons travel to Xiamen to take part in the ACAMIS Gold Division Volleyball tournament. The competition was extremely challenging against an ever-improving standard of competition and unfortunately both our boys and girls teams finished the competition in 6th and 5th places respectively. Despite this our Sea Dragons maintained a positive attitude throughout showing great Sea Dragon spirit and endeavor. It is these experiences that we learn and grow from. Success should never be measured in trophies and medals, but in terms of how we progress and develop along the journey, like everything else, athletic pursuits are also a process.

Congratulations to Joy, Sunny, Tony and Toma for being nominated for the All ACAMIS team. We will come back stronger next year!
