Jiujitsu
Brazilian Jiujitsu teaches students how to deal with anger, fear, stress, anxiety, and pain.
f
Jiujitsu
When the mind is put under incredible stress, it's easy to freeze up and forget what to do. When anger arises, it's easy to want to retaliate. But, through systematic desensitization, students learn how to control their emotions better. Jiujitsu is a class that will help them become confident and it will change their lives.
f
Cooking
This activity provides a chance to learn to cook and as a result live a healthier lifestyle.
f
Cooking
Calling all foodies! One of the best ways to help teenagers eat healthier and gain confidence in the kitchen is to teach them how to bake and cook. This class provides students with hands-on experience in planning and preparing meals and making smarter food choices.
f
Yoga
Yoga can awaken the mind and help students reach their potential.
f
Yoga
By exercising their body and regulating their breathing, students can control their mind and emotions and help to maintain a healthy body. Eventually, they will reach harmony in body, mind, and spirit.

Fulfilling a longstanding interest in the education field, she joined DHS. Elaine understands that a full seven-day boarding school needs an active and attractive Weekend Program to help students develop a good outlook on life and social responsibility, master a variety of skills, and lead a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, she and her team have been arranging for students to try new activities such as visiting places they otherwise may not see, and widening their cultural and social horizons, while having a great time with their peers.

Andrew Wei Liu
Currently studying at Art Center College of Design
“The most memorable time for me was the first year in dormitory where everyone spent time together in the common area on Sundays, chatting and watching the soccer game. It was like home. It can be said that the culture of this dormitory is to cultivate students' long-term development in the future.”
f
Owen Haoyu Xu
Currently studying at University of Wisconsin-Madison
“The dormitory improved my interpersonal communication skills. After a few years in the dormitory, I became more self-reliant because I have learned in the dormitory that it is up to me to sleep and wake up on time. In the past, when students are at home, parents force them to study.  In the dorm, there is no one that will force students to study; therefore, we must choose to study on our own.”
f
Wendy Zhangzhichun Xu
Currently studying at Lehigh University
“After living in the dormitory, I had the opportunity to explore more extracurricular activities. These opportunities allowed me to get in touch with hobbies that I really enjoy, which have been a great help to me in university. At the same time, living in the dormitory allows me to spend more time with classmates, allowing me to get know them more deeply. In our dormitory free time was able to spend time with friends and find my best friends in high school. These friends make high school life more interesting.

At first, living in the dormitory is a little daunting, but as time goes by, it gets easier. DHS dormitory not only focuses on short-term accommodation for students, but also tries its best to cultivate students' long-term life skills and hobbies.”

Adam Yitong Ding
Currently studying at University of Richmond
“The greatest benefit of living in dormitory for me was the environment. The social space and atmosphere are very good, and I was not alone from morning to night. Time seemed to pass quickly.  I was surrounded by my classmates all day and into the evening. Living together has become a good memory of my high school life. Another great benefit of dormitory is convenience. Because the dormitory is on campus, it saves me lot of time, allowing me to eat minutes away from school, so that I have more time to do what I want to do.”
f
Helen Yunmeng Zhang
Currently studying at Bard College
“The greatest advantage of dormitory was convenience and flexibility. Because my home was far away, boarding saved a lot of commuting time. Secondly, I could more easily access the school resources, such as the soccer field, and I could attend after school extracurricular activities, such as joining the soccer team. Living in the dormitory allowed us to access our school teachers in GST, where it is more convenient to communicate with them.  This in turn gave us more practice in this area.”
f
Jenny Zhiru
Currently studying at Berklee College of Music
“I could spend more time with my classmates. For example, in high school we could review the AP course together. At the same time, living in a dormitory can increase the friendship between classmates. You can also learn a lot from getting along with the classmates. I studied with my classmates every night, and It had a good learning atmosphere.”
f
Mark Ma
Currently studying at St. Edward’s University
“The biggest benefit of boarding life was to help me grow up. You have freedom and responsibility at the same time. Once you master your own living habits, you can also master the ability to manage various trivial matters. Secondly, I liked the culture of the dormitory very much because I found that many of the things in life that teachers do are to serve as role models for us. They all have the habit of reading, especially the summer vacation of 2018. From then on, I developed my reading habit.”
