ELIGIBILITY

In compliance with the School Wide Learner Outcomes, candidates must show resilience, courage, initiative, creativity and curiosity as they pursue personal excellence in intellect and health. Applicants will demonstrate the potential to become critical thinkers, and problem solvers who are technologically literate. Applicants will appreciate and reflect on the influences of cultures in their interactions with others, contribute to the interdependent world around them through inquiry and action, become respectful and trustworthy global citizens.

 

  • Elementary applicants will be given an English language proficiency assessment, Chinese and Math (approx. 1.5 hours).
  • Secondary applicants will be given English language proficiency tests in reading, writing and oral language (up to 3 hours).

 

Applicants in all grades will attend the Family Meeting with the Divisional Principal. In some cases, additional admissions assessment may be necessary to make placement decisions. The Admissions Review Team will ensure DHS can support individual student learning needs.

Jenny’s academic achievements were impressive enough to win her acceptance to a number of top universities including the University of Toronto, UIUC, UC Davis and UCR to major in Psychology. Her dream came true, however, when she was able to combine her passions for music and psychology with an $11,000 a year scholarship to study Music Therapy at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music, Massachusetts, USA.

Ein Sel
Class of 2024
Ein Sel, Class of 2024 Valedictorian, led as DAIS Model UN Secretary-General, captained the varsity volleyball team, and served as an executive for the nonprofit Our Home, all while earning recognition as a U.S. Presidential Scholar Semifinalist. He is now attending NYU Stern, majoring in Business and Political Economy.

QUESTIONS

  • When should I submit the applications? Is there a deadline?
    Each year, the Education Bureau announces the registration date for all 9-year compulsory schools. DHS observes the dates and guidelines given by the Education Bureau.
  • Will elementary and middle school students have their “Xueji”?
    Yes, students from grade 1- 9 will have their “Xueji” enrolled under DHS. 
  • Will the test result of my child’s Zhongkao affect the grades at school and/or college applications overseas?
    No, your child’s Zhongkao grade will not affect school grades nor the application to college overseas. However, your child’s Zhongkao grade is considered for G10 application in DHS Secondary.  
  • What kind of school lunch is offered?
    DHS offers daily Chinese and Western food options. Lunch menus are published on the website each month so that students and parents together can order from the menu. Elementary students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school each day.Students are permitted to bring their own lunch to school if they so choose. 
  • What age group does your boarding program start admitting?
    Staring from the 2021/22 school year, DHS will start offering the boarding option for both elementary students and secondary students.
