The After School Activities (ASA) program at DHS is designed to allow students the freedom to discover and develop lifelong passions, maintain a healthy body and mind, extend, and apply their classroom knowledge, and provide a link to give back to the community. We provide a wide range of ASA opportunities to let our students develop intellect, character, and health in a safe and welcoming environment.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND COMMUNITY

At DHS, we believe that our community service programs provide students with the opportunity to become active members of their larger community, develop critical life skills and knowledge while making a difference in the lives of those in need.  

Auntie Wang’s Elderly Home Project – Students assessed the needs of the elderly residents and, among other things, spearheaded a successful food drive, brought together a group of student volunteers to make warm blankets and visited regularly to read books to the senior citizens. 

No Plastic Bag Club - With sustainability in mind, students involved in this volunteer program focused on educating their classmates on the importance of maintaining a healthy environment by eliminating the use of plastic bags. 

Accenture Computer Distribution Committee  – A group of DAIS students and teachers came together to distribute donated computers to elementary and secondary students in need living near the school.

A chance to undertake the process of conceiving, designing, and coding a video game.

Citizenship Expedition
In 2018, a group of DHS students went to a small village school near Chaoyang, Liaoning province.

DHS students spent quality time with the local children, getting to know them through play, conversation, and teaching them kids English, Chinese, art, and music. At the end of the trip, the volunteers felt a sense of accomplishment as they had not only made a difference in the lives of the children they met, but they also grew as individuals.

The annual Anbo Mountain ski trip is a yearly highlight for our students and staff as they engage in outdoor sporting activities together and enjoy the picturesque landscape on a beautiful winter day in the Dalian area.

A great opportunity for students from different schools to discuss international situations.

By participating in MUN conferences students work on finding solutions to some of the current problems the world is facing, participate in debates, build leadership skills, and utilize critical thinking skills to resolve ongoing international issues. It is events like this that help students gain social and emotional experiences outside of the normal hours of school. The Model United Nations program at DAIS helps to create well-rounded students and responsible global citizens.

The main goal of this trip is to learn about the human and natural resources of Liaoning province, to see real world examples of human impact on the environment, and to deepen students’ understanding about how public spaces, like parks, help to shape communities.
